It would be awesome to join the ethical community, thank you for your kind consideration!
Hi there! Iâd like to suggest adding Circular Design (https://circulardesign.io) to the directoryâs Ethical Tech Orgs section. Circular Design is almost unique in being a not-for-profit web design agency that works only with open-source WordPress sites, reinvests all profit through grants to grassroots organisations, and creates job opportunities for refguees and asylum seekers (who make up over 50% of the team). Itâs a pretty unique and wholly ethical approach - trying to point out that business doesnât need to be extractive, but can be circular! https://circulardesign.io/
Hello there! Iâd love to add a brilliant course platform Iâve started collaborating with called The Portal. Itâs not a usual kind of course platform in that it supports its creators (anyone wants to sell an offer on their platform) to build genuine community connection without depending on the tech bro social media algorithms. Itâs all about collaborative learning and there are interactive tools which means if another creator has a class that would do well with my audience, I could add it to my offer easily. Theyâre very keen for us creators to grow naturally. They hold their community space on Circle, whilst the courses are hosted on their own bespoke platform. There are courses on managing the polycrisis, on foraging, on witchy stuff, on so many great ideas. Itâs community funded too, which is brilliant.
Are these lists actively updated to ensure all resources maintain their ethical compliance? I ask this because duckduckgo is still listed even though it has known ties to supporting the active Genocide of Palestinians, yet it is still listed as an ethical search engine alternative. Also Proton uses VPN servers in occupied Palestine which appropiates the Genocide of Palestinians through association yet Proton is still listed as an ethical email resource.
These are just the only example I am aware of right now, and there most likely are more instances like this, so is their an active periodic review of all these resources to ensure their ethical complaince, if not then I ask why this is the case, and when as well as hoe will this issue be addressed and rectified?
âDisrootâ offers a wed services platform built on the principles of privacy, openness, transparency, and freedom. âDisrootâ is committed to never sell, help processes, or use any information provided by those who use the service to 3rd parties for any financial, political, or power power gaining processes. âDisrootâ is a non-profit foundation and all revenues from the âDisrootâ platform are invested back into the project and the maintenance of services into free software development.

Once users sign up for an account with âDisrootâ users can access it through the service providers Webmail. Nothing in a users mailbox is going to be encrypted so technically email provider can read all of a users emails if service provider really wishes to.
âDisrootâ is a good choice for a personal email account because the service providers privacy policy states that they keep very minimal amounts of a users data, therefore âDisrootâ can not provide law enforcement or governments with detailed information regarding the users of their services.

Iâd like to suggest No Fuss Gym, a workout tracking app I built myself (Iâm a certified personal trainer and independent developer).
The reason I think it fits this directory: most fitness/gym tracking apps on the market rely on ad trackers, third-party SDKs, and data reselling to monetize, even the paid ones. No Fuss Gym takes the opposite approach: zero ads, zero trackers, zero data selling. The app is free to use with a subscription unlocking extra features (cloud sync, advanced programs), but the core tracking experience stays fully functional without it, and thereâs no tracking regardless of tier.
Functionally, itâs a full workout log and progress tracker: sets/reps/weights, strength progression over time, body measurements, and it also supports resistance bands and bodyweight training, which most competitors ignore.
Hello everybody. I hope this is the right place. I work at Packetra (https://packetra.com), so this is my own company I am putting forward, not a neutral tip.
We are two people who got fed up with hosts hoarding customer data and started our own in January. You give us an email and a password to sign up. That is it. No ID, no phone number, no address. We run our own analytics and our own crypto payment server so nobody else gets a look at our customers either.
We put the machines in Finland for the law, the cold and the power. The datacentres there run on renewable hydro and wind, documented by the operators rather than bought as offsets, and the cold air does most of our cooling.
Ask me anything, including the awkward stuff. : ) Take care.
