Hi there! Iâd like to suggest adding Circular Design (https://circulardesign.io) to the directoryâs Ethical Tech Orgs section. Circular Design is almost unique in being a not-for-profit web design agency that works only with open-source WordPress sites, reinvests all profit through grants to grassroots organisations, and creates job opportunities for refguees and asylum seekers (who make up over 50% of the team). Itâs a pretty unique and wholly ethical approach - trying to point out that business doesnât need to be extractive, but can be circular! https://circulardesign.io/
Hello there! Iâd love to add a brilliant course platform Iâve started collaborating with called The Portal. Itâs not a usual kind of course platform in that it supports its creators (anyone wants to sell an offer on their platform) to build genuine community connection without depending on the tech bro social media algorithms. Itâs all about collaborative learning and there are interactive tools which means if another creator has a class that would do well with my audience, I could add it to my offer easily. Theyâre very keen for us creators to grow naturally. They hold their community space on Circle, whilst the courses are hosted on their own bespoke platform. There are courses on managing the polycrisis, on foraging, on witchy stuff, on so many great ideas. Itâs community funded too, which is brilliant.
Are these lists actively updated to ensure all resources maintain their ethical compliance? I ask this because duckduckgo is still listed even though it has known ties to supporting the active Genocide of Palestinians, yet it is still listed as an ethical search engine alternative. Also Proton uses VPN servers in occupied Palestine which appropiates the Genocide of Palestinians through association yet Proton is still listed as an ethical email resource.
These are just the only example I am aware of right now, and there most likely are more instances like this, so is their an active periodic review of all these resources to ensure their ethical complaince, if not then I ask why this is the case, and when as well as hoe will this issue be addressed and rectified?
